The best rum cocktails list includes the Mojito and classic Daiquiri as well as several tiki cocktails as well as bonus rum cocktail you’ve probably never heard of before.

The Daiquiri would have to be one of the most iconic classics. It was first created in the 1890s and Bacardi was first to call. Originally the drink was served in a tall glass packed with ice.

This Mai Tai recipe is a slight adaptation on Trader Vic’s recipe from 1944 - excluding the rare and expensive Wray and Nephew rum and upping the curacao in place of the rock candy syrup (which is also known as rich simple syrup - a 2:1 simple syrup).

The original trademarked version is held by the Gosling family. It calls for Gosling’s Bermudan rum but any dark rum to accompany a spicy ginger beer will work - just don’t substitute for ginger ale. Apparently many venues that utilize a different rum have had to resort to cleverly renaming the drink to Safe Harbour, in order to avoid litigation from the Gosling’s family.

  • - 90mL Ginger Beer
  • - Lime wedge

  1. Add ice to your high ball glass
  2. Pour the ginger beer ensuring you leave space for the rum
  3. Float the dark rum on top
  4. Garnish with a lime wedge
