For fish marination and frying:


  • Boneless fish: 500 grams
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Spices/garam masala powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 teaspoon
  • Oil: 2 to 3 tablespoons or as per the requirement


  1. Wash and strain medium-sized pieces of fish.
  2. Add salt, black pepper powder, spices and ginger garlic paste to the fish.
  3. Mix well and keep aside for marination for about half an hour.
  4. After half an hour of marinating the fish, add 2 to3 tablespoons oil to a frying pan.
  5. Mix the marination again and lower the fish pieces into the pan.
  6. Close the lid and cook on medium flame.
  7. When the fish is cooked on one side, flip and again close the lid.
  8. When both the sides are cooked, remove the fish pieces from the pan.
  9. Allow the fish pieces to cool and then shred thoroughly.

Final preparation:


  • Shredded fish
  • Potatoes: 250 grams
  • Garlic cloves:5
  • Whole green chilies: 4
  • Chopped mint leaves: 2 tablespoon
  • Chopped coriander: 2 tablespoon
  • Salt: 3/4th teaspoon
  • Black pepper powder: 1/4th teaspoon
  • Spices/garam masala powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cornflour: 3 tablespoons
  • Bread crumbs: 3 tablespoons
  • Oil: for frying


  1. Boil potatoes. Peel the skin, mash well till no lumps are left.
  2. Add mashed potatoes to the shredded fish.
  3. Add crushed garlic cloves (1 teaspoon approximately).
  4. Add crushed green chilies, chopped mint leaves, chopped coriander, salt, black pepper powder, spices or garam masala powder, cornflour and bread crumbs.
  5. Mix well. Make round cutlets out of this mixture.
  6. Add oil for frying.
  7. When the oil is hot, coat each cutlet with cornflour on both the sides and lower into the oil.
  8. Deep fry the cutlets on both the sides, till they turn light brown.
  9. Remove from the pan and serve hot with Mint or Pudina ki Chutney or Tomato Sauce.
