Ingredients:
- 12 cardamom pods (you'll need to open these with the back of a knife)
- 8ish whole black peppercorns
- 8-10 whole cloves
- 2-3 inches of fresh ginger root
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 3 allspice
- 1 nutmeg
- 3 TBSP coconut sugar (in other recipes I've seen online, people use a lot more sugar, like up to 1/2 C. I prefer my chai more savory than sweet, but you might want to add more sugar :))
- 3-4 black tea bags
- 4 cups water
Steps:
- Bring everything (except the tea bags) to a boil
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes
- Add tea bags and steep for 3-5 minutes
- Strain
For Chai Almond Latte:
Add equal parts chai tea & warm almond milk to a mug; blend with immersion blender for yummy foam. Top with cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.
For Iced Chai:
Let chai tea cool before pouring it into silicone ice cube trays, then freeze. Add almond milk to a mug along with 4-5 cubes, and enjoy! The drink will get stronger as the cubes melt. I also like these in iced coffee ☺
